Bastille Scores Eighth Straight Alternative Songs Top 10 With Marshmello Collab 'Happier'

The band ties Green Day & Incubus for the longest streak of career-starting top 10s.
Bastille returns to the top 10 of Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart for the eighth time in as many tries, a record that the English band now shares with Green Day and Incubus.
With "Happier," Bastille's collaboration with Marshmello, the quartet has sent each of its entries into the Alternative Songs top 10, dating to its first: its lone leader, "Pompeii," in 2013. "Happier" hikes 11-7 on the Oct. 6-dated list with a 16 percent gain in plays, according to Nielsen Music.
Bastille is one of just three acts to have scored top 10s with each of eight initial Alternative Songs entries. Green Day made the top 10 with every charted song from "Longview" to "Brain Stew/Jaded" between 1993 and 1996 and Incubus accomplished the feat from "Pardon Me" to "Talk Shows on Mute" in 1999-2004.
Bastille has a chance to claim the mark all to itself, as Green Day and Incubus could not keep their streaks going past eight apiece, missing with "Walking Contradiction" (No. 21) and "Make a Move" (No. 17), respectively.
"Happier" is Bastille's third Alternative Songs top 10 of 2018, following "Quarter Past Midnight" (No. 3, Aug. 4) and "World Gone Mad" (No. 9, Feb. 3).
Meanwhile, Marshmello earns his first top 10 on Alternative Songs in his first visit. He boasts multiple top 10s on other Billboard airplay charts, including a pair on Pop Songs this year: "Friends" with Anne-Marie (No. 2, Aug. 4) and "Wolves" with Selena Gomez (No. 6, Feb. 17).
"Happier" concurrently reaches the top 10 of the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, rising 12-8 with 7.2 million audience impressions (up 24 percent). It's Marshmello's first top 10 on the list and Bastille's seventh (its top 10 streak doesn't extend to this chart, where "World" stopped at No. 13).
"Happier" is also a hit outside the alternative format; it zooms 18-14 on Pop Songs, 25-22 on Adult Pop Songs and 7-4 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay. On the all-format Radio Songs chart, it leaps 43-31 (34.5 million in all-format audience, up 31 percent).
On the all-genre, airplay-, streaming- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100, "Happier" vaults 31-15. Bastille is aiming for its second Hot 100 top 10, after "Pompeii" hit No. 5 in 2014, while Marshmello is seeking his first.
