Iman and David Bowie at Hammerstein Ballroom
Former supermodel Iman has opened up about the pain and loneliness following the death of her legendary husband David Bowie, who passed away January 2016 after a battle with cancer.
The 63-year-old fashion icon, who was married to Bowie for 24 years, says the past two years without her husband have been difficult. One thing she hasn't gotten used to is fans sharing their condolences.
“People take pictures of me in the street, and say (touching my arm), ‘I am so sorry for your loss,’” she told fashion site Porter Edit. “I’m like, don’t touch me. You just took pictures of me, how can you be sorry?"
The model said she understands fans' grief, but it's not the same her family's. "They have lost someone they look up to; we have lost a husband and a father,” said Iman, referring to her and Bowie's 18-year-old daughter, Alexandria.
The fashion icon also addressed whether she would consider marrying again. “I will never remarry,” she said. “I mentioned my husband the other day with someone, and they said to me, ‘You mean your late husband?’ I said, no, he is always going to be my husband.”
Iman admitted that she has been very lonely since Bowie's passing, and hasn't ruled out a future relationship with another man. "I can’t say never, but no, not now,” she said.
On another subject, Iman noted that her youngest Alexandria, known as Lexi, has received many modeling offers after seeing a recent photo on Instagram.
"Every agency, every designer, called me to say, ‘If she wants to, we’d love for her to model for us,'" Iman told Porter Edit, adding that she denied the requests. “I know why they wanted to her to model -- it’s because she is David Bowie’s daughter.”
