Bad Wolves' Cover of The Cranberries' 'Zombie' Hits No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Songs Chart

Bad Wolves secure their first No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart with their first entry, as their cover of The Cranberries' "Zombie" jumps 4-1.
The recording, originally intended as a duet with late Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan and released in her memory after her Jan. 15 death, is the first remake to rule the ranking since Disturbed's "The Sound of Silence" (originally by Simon & Garfunkel in 1965), which led for seven weeks beginning in March 2016.
The last No. 1 cover before that? Also by Disturbed: its remake of Genesis' "Land of Confusion" in 2006.

They're also the first band to lead the chart with its first charting track since Greta Van Fleet, whose "Highway Tune" topped the Sept. 16, 2017-dated tally and reigned for five total weeks. (Greta's second single, "Safari Song," also led, for three weeks beginning in February.)
Concurrently, "Zombie" holds steady at No. 7 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, gathering a new high of 6.7 million audience impressions (up 10 percent), according to Nielsen Music, and pushes 28-26 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart. (The Cranberries' "Zombie" topped Alternative Songs for six weeks in 1994 and hit No. 32 on Mainstream Rock Songs in January 1995.)
Bad Wolves' debut album Disobey is due May 11. The set's "Hear Me Now," featuring DIAMANTE, debuts on the May 5-dated Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart at No. 6 with 3,000 sold. "Zombie" leads the list for a ninth week, with 20,000 sold.
