Nirvana Pays Loving Tribute to Kurt Cobain on 24th Anniversary of His Death

Cobain in 1993. Nirvana would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 21 years later.

Today (Apr. 5) marks the 24th anniversary of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain's death. The grunge icon was discovered in a room above the garage of his Seattle home on Apr. 8, 1994, though investigators later determined that the 27 year-old rock star had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound three days earlier. The band's surviving members took to their official Twitter account on Thursday morning to pay tribute to Cobain, writing simply, "Dear Kurt -- We miss you."

The touching message from the surviving members -- former drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic -- accompanied the message with an iconic photo from photographer Michael Levine.

Grohl and Novoselic weren't the only ones who remembered Cobain on the grim anniversary. The singer's only child, 24 year-old Frances Bean Cobain, posted a clip of her first-ever original song on Thursday morning -- a bracing, soulful a cappella snippet with dark lyrics reminiscent of her father's often morbid oeuvre -- and a number of fans also paid homage.
