Imagine Dragons 'Thunder' to No. 1 on Alternative Songs Chart
Imagine Dragons
The rockers earn their third No. 1 on the chart, halting the 17-week reign of Portugal. The Man's "Feel It Still."
Imagine Dragons roll to No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart with "Thunder," the second single from their album Evolve.
The
song, which follows their 13-week No. 1 "Believer," rises 3-1 on the
ranking dated Nov. 4, becoming the Las Vegas band's third chart-topper.
Its first, "Radioactive," also ruled for 13 weeks, beginning March 2,
2013.
"Thunder" dethrones Portugal. The Man's
"Feel It Still" from its perch atop Alternative Songs. The latter track
led for 17 weeks, tying for the third-longest No. 1 run since the chart
began in September 1988.
Although it's possible that "Feel" could return to the top and extend
its command, here's a look at the longest-leading Alternative Songs No.
1s (with two of the top four, including the record-holder, by Muse).

"Still"
logged the second-longest consecutive streak at No. 1, with all its 17
weeks on top in a row; the record is 18, by both "The Pretender" and
"Madness," the latter of which spent a week at No. 1, dropped to No. 2
and then returned to the summit for 18 more frames at No. 1.
Concurrently, "Thunder" reaches a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100, jumping 8-5, and giving the chart two rock bands in the top five
(joining Portugal. The Man) for the first time in over 10 years. The
track is the top-selling song in the U.S. for a second total week,
crowning the Digital Song Sales chart with 66,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen Music.
"Thunder" bullets at No. 2 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart with 11 million audience impressions, up 6 percent. In addition to its Alternative Songs success, it returns to its No. 21 high on Adult Alternative Songs and debuts at No. 35 on Mainstream Rock Songs. That's in addition to its pop crossover, as it bullets at No. 8 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 12 on Pop Songs.
