Tegan and Sara Deliver Hits, 'The Con' Gems to Fun-Filled Meadows Festival Set
Tegan & Sara perform live on stage during a concert at Huxleys Neue Welt on Feb. 1, 2017 in Berlin, Germany
Aside from great synth-pop jams, a real highlight of Tegan and Sara's live show is the free-flowing stage banter between the twin sister duo. Their shows are just as much a stand-up act as they are a musical performance.
As for how to tell them apart on stage? Tegan offered a simple solution during their early evening set on Friday (Sept. 15), day one (Sept. 15) of Meadows at Citi Field in Queens: "I'm Tegan, that's Sara, and you call tell us apart because I'm wearing a jumpsuit!"
After
walking out to their signature welcome song "I'm So Excited," the
synth-pop duo opened with "Drove Me Wild" and "Goodbye, Goodbye" while
surrounded by their stage props of large colorful blow up letters in the
shapes of "T & S."
While the set largely charged ahead with one power pop anthem after
another, the sisters slowed things down to commemorate the upcoming 10th
anniversary of their album The Con by delivering a stripped
down, acoustic version of "Call It Off" before showcasing their chilling
harmonies on the piano-driven "Nineteen."
Earlier, Tegan noted their set marked the last show of their current album cycle (2016's Love You To Death).
Having made it to the end of a summer filled with festival performances
(Lollapalooza, Boston Calling and others), their performance could have
easily felt stale. Fortunately for the sisters, their danceable
catalogue and ever-present humor prevents such a thing from happening.
