Pearl Jam's Delivers Surprise Rooftop Show in 'Let's Play Two' Documentary Preview: Premiere

Pearl Jam perform at Fenway Park on Aug. 5, 2016 in Boston

The film is out Friday showcasing the iconic rock band's 2016 concerts at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Pearl Jam visited Chicago last August for two shows at Wrigley Field. The concerts just so happened to coincide with the 2016 season that brought the Chicago Cubs their first World Series victory in 108 years and were documented by photographer Danny Clinch for his new film, Let’s Play Two. Today (Sept. 28), Billboard is premiering an exclusive clip that illuminates the group’s inimitable relationship with the Windy City.
The mammoth, three-hour stadium performances on Aug. 20 and 22 were offset with a surprise Pearl Jam concert on the roof of a bar outside Wrigley Field. The new clip shows the band playing a stripped-down set, to the delight of diehard fans who camped outside the stadium in order to get a good seat. In one particularly touching shot, a father beams with pride as he announces this is his 27th Pearl Jam show and his son’s first.
Frontman Eddie Vedder has always held Chicago dear to his heart, as he grew up in the suburb of Evanston, Illinois. As such, the Wrigley Field crowd regards the band as hometown heroes. Let’s Play Two captures Pearl Jam’s triumphant, career-spanning performances as well as exclusive interviews and a look at the Wrigleyville neighborhood as its residents prepared for the concerts and celebrated the Cubs’ historic season.
Let’s Play Two opens in theaters on Sept. 29 from Abramorama.
