Frank Zappa Hologram Tour Dates to Be Announced Next Year

Since 2006, Dweezil Zappa has honored the legacy of his late father, Frank Zappa,
with the Dweezil Zappa Plays Frank Zappa band. Starting next year,
however, fans may be able to catch the elder Zappa on tour in a series
of new hologram shows.
Hologram entertainment company Eyellusion
announced Thursday (Sept. 21) that it’s partnered with Zappa Family
Trust to produce the “Frank Zappa - Back on the Road” concerts. The
hologram Zappa will “be going back out on tour playing his most
well-known music as well as some rare and unheard material,” according
to his son Ahmet Zappa. The shows will also incorporate several of the
avant-garde rocker’s esteemed collaborators, including Steve Vai, Ian Underwood, Adrian Belew and Arthur Barrow.
Production for “Frank Zappa - Back on the Road” will begin later this
year, with a tour date announcement planned for late 2018. The company
is also planning a production of Joe’s Garage The Musical,
based off Zappa’s seminal three-part rock opera, in which his hologram
will play the album’s protagonist, the Central Scrutinizer.
