Radiohead has unveiled their long-awaited collaboration with composer Hans Zimmer, titled “ocean (bloom).” The song acted as soundtrack to a five-minute prequel for BBC’s Blue Planet II prior to the Sept. 27 episode.
The track reworks “Bloom” off Radiohead’s 2011 album The King Of Limbs. Thom Yorke and Hans Zimmer discuss the collaboration, which features the BBC Concert Orchestra under Zimmer’s direction, on BBC Radio 6 Music.
Yorke previously noted the connection between the show and the original track. “'Bloom' was inspired by the original Blue Planet series, so it's great to be able to come full circle with the song and reimagine it for this incredible landmark's sequel,” explained the singer in a press release.

“ocean (bloom)” joins Zimmer’s long list of career successes in film scoring, including The Lion King, The Dark Night, and more. Yorke sang Zimmer’s praises in the same release, and expressed his excitement to bring their talents together: “Hans is a prodigious composer who effortlessly straddles several musical genres, so it was liberating for us all to work with such a talent and see how he wove the sound of the series and 'Bloom' together.”
Watch the entire prequel below, and listen to the uninterrupted track and interview on BBC’s site.
