Depeche Mode Release Cover Video of Bowie's 'Heroes' On Its 40th Anniversary
Depeche Mode perform "Heroes"
Depeche Mode included David Bowie's
"Heroes" on the set list throughout the Europe and North American legs
of the Global Spirit Tour, and in celebration of the iconic
song's 40th anniversary Friday (Sept. 22), the band unleashed an
official cover video.
In the video, the band is simply in the
studio. It's dimly lit, and the vocals are filled with emotion. The
video -- directed by Tim Saccenti and recorded from the 'Highline
Sessions' -- is described as "one of the stripped back performance
films Saccenti made during the recording of (Depeche Mode's album) Spirit in 2016."
In a press release, Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan said, "'Heroes'
is the most special song to me at the moment. Bowie is the one artist
who I've stuck with since I was in my early teens. His albums are always
my go-to on tour and covering 'Heroes' is paying homage to Bowie."
